Follow Our Home Moving Tips

At Northwest Grace Moving, we believe that moving day should be as stress-free as possible. That’s why we have provided ten tips to simplify your move.

1. Pack for moving day-

Pack one suitcase for each family member with necessities like clothing, toiletries, medicine, a child’s favorite toy, a couple of extra blankets, and anything else you would like to have on hand. Moving into a new home is stressful enough without having to look for the box with your child’s nap time blanket during the move.

2. Make a plan-

Talk with your family before the move and assign tasks to each member in advance. These tasks may include packing up individual rooms, scheduling childcare on the move day, and discussing where things will go once they are moved into your new home.

Another angle of planning is creating a floor-plan. This will allow you to decide where each possession, piece of furniture, or appliance will go. It is important to define this in advance to avoid moving items around within your new space after the movers have placed them.

3. Label everything clearly-

Two types of labels are absolutely vital during a move. The first is the label that tells a mover where to place a box or object. The second is a label that tells the mover if an item is fragile. At Northwest Grace Moving, we take “Fragile” labels extremely seriously and transport each labeled item with extreme delicacy and care.

4. Dispose of items that no longer serve you in advance-

The last thing you want during a relocation is to bring items with you that you would prefer disposed of or donated. As you pack up your home, be sure to decide what to do with these items in advance. If you need additional disposal or donation assistance, let us know! We would be happy to help.

 5. Ask friends and family for help at least a couple of weeks before the move-

A moving company can move your furniture and precious items from one home to another, but we cannot take care of other essentials during a move like childcare, pet housing, and more. Be sure to set up these services with friends, family, or other companies before moving day.

6. Start the packing phase early-

Packing up a home can take longer than you may think. Give yourself the time and space needed to pack up your home in advance.

7. Decide on appliances that will come with you – and discuss what to do with anything you are leaving behind-

It may be obvious to you which appliances must be left behind. For example, if you are moving out of an apartment, the refrigerator and the stove will likely remain. However, if you are moving from one home to another, appliances may be defined within your sales contract. Be sure to review this information and mark any large appliances for removal before the movers get to your home.

8. List out each step of your move in a simple task list-

Tackling a move can feel overwhelming, but it doesn’t have to be. Write out each moving task into a simple list. If a step seems too difficult or overwhelming, break it down into several smaller steps. Task lists can help you accomplish a hassle-free, stress-free move.

9. Make space for important memories that you would like to preserve or store-

Many of us have possessions that we keep due to their sentimental value. Be sure these items are preserved or stored appropriately so that they can be tucked away in your new home. It is important to ensure you have easy access to these items, but that they are also stored in a way that will preserve them for years to come.

10. Complete any change of address tasks as soon as possible-

Notify utilities, friends, family, credit card companies, your bank, and the post office of your change of address. Most companies can be notified online, but you may need to text or call friends and family with your new address.

...Wouldn't Use Another Moving Company

Ian and the boys showed up on time and moved everything quickly, professionally and carefully. They even fixed my moveable bed that previous movers broke from my last move. Highly recommend and wouldn’t use any other moving company. Great job boys!

Oregon City to Meridian, Idaho...

We were so pleased with Northwest Grace when they moved us from Oregon City to Meridian, Idaho. They were professional. They treated us, our possessions, and each other with care and respect. They were careful with the walls as they moved our heavy furniture in and out - even our large upright piano. We highly recommend!

Made It All Very Smooth...

We moved about 3 weeks ago and NW Grace Moving made it all very smooth. They were very friendly and professional. They didn't waste time and moved quickly without sacrificing quality. They made sure all of our stuff was safe and secure. When we arrived, they did a great job of unloading and dropping it off at our new apt. One of them even helped us make our bed which was super helpful! Even though our place is only 800 sq feet, we had 3 movers which I definitely recommend. Would happily use them again!

...I knew I was in good hands.

The Northwest Grace Moving team was fantastic!

We all know how stressful moving can be. They made it as smooth and stress-free as it could possibly be. Hiring movers wasn’t inexpensive, but it was well worth it.

From my first contact with Angie, I knew I was in good hands.
1. The communication was excellent - they provided clear instructions and information, and I was encouraged to ask questions. They were quick to respond, and reassured me they could provide what I needed (to wrap, disassemble, and reassemble my furniture).
2. The guys were professional and experienced. They were methodical, strategic, efficient, and strong. Kudos to Matt, Casey, Hunter, and Andrew!
I would recommend Northwest Grace moving to anyone in a second! And if I ever have to move again, they’ll be my first call.
